Even though Marc Cucurella has a lot of detractors among Chelsea supporters, they all seem to be enjoying his work at the moment.
After undergoing ankle surgery, he was tҺrust back into the action before he had fully recovered.
Since then, he has been subjected to an intense playing schedule that must have crossed more than a few red lines in terms of sport science. This includes playing for Spain on the international scene and adding extra unplanned minutes to a recuperation timetable.
Today Cucurella will start his fourth game in 10 days with Ben Chilwell still a double. We hope that this is the last time it happens for him; he deserves a rest!
Regardless of what people think of you off the field, you will always win over supporters by putting your body on the line and supporting the team when necessary. It was intriguing to read Cucurella’s remarks regarding his recuperation following a very significant surgery on the Chelsea website:
Because I was sidelined for an extended amount of time, the season has not been simple. I had to put in a lot of effort and work hard every day before I could play. I feel great, and the most important thing is that we keep winning the games,” he stated.
“We must become more steady. We have a crucial game against Sheffield United that we must win, and we need to win every week. The three points [against Manchester United] would have been meaningless otherwise. Thus, we must continue to build. We have performed better in many games than the outcome indicates, but this is football. To improve as a team, we must lessen these little errors. Despite our youth, we persevere and have faith in our abilities.
Sheffield United presents a comparatively easy opponent for Chelsea today. But for that exact reason, Cucurella must have complete focus. As we witnessed midweek, he may be a potent оffensive weapon, but we cannot afford another subpar defensive performance. We need him to make wise decisions and the entire club to play better game management than they have demonstrated over the past few months.
All we need is one more outstanding performance from the former Brighton player, and nobody else needs to make a mistake.
