Trevoh Chalobah of Chelsea conceded that losing to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final was a difficult pill to chew, but he insisted that the Blues needed to get back together fast since they had “seven finals” to come in the Premier League.
Chelsea was narrowly defeated by Pep Guardiola’s team at Wembley, despite having more clear-cut opportunities over the 90 minutes of play. City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega turned down a penalty appeal for handball, while Nicolas Jackson was denied twice. With a late goal from Bernardo Silva, City advanced to the championship game, and the Blues were mercilessly eliminated from the competition.
Chelsea’s chances of winning any major awards this season were dashed by the FA Cup loss, and Chalobah’s dismay was evident as he exited the field after the game. Despite his impressive performance at Wembley, the academy graduate acknowledged that the Blues were unduly hampered by their inability to score in the latter third.
The 24-year-old clarified, “The manager’s game plan, which we worked on the last few days, definitely showed.” “We only lacked the last details, which was locating the back of the net, since we adhered to that game plan.
“Today is difficult since we had opportunities. We must take lessons from these kinds of situations. Now that we’ve visited this season twice, a fresh bunch of guys has experienced what it’s like to be at Wembley. We must improve to make it to the final and perhaps we will have that again next season.”
With their recovery work and Premier League preparations beginning on Tuesday night at Cobham, Mauricio Pochettino and his team have little time to reflect on previous results. Chelsea, who is presently ranked ninth in the Premier League, is aware that a victory over the Gunners will help them get closer to the teams competing in Europe.
“We have to really focus and get the boys together because we’ve got another seven finals ahead of us to make things right,” Chalobah stated. “We want to show up for the fans and get the club where it should be up the table.”
