The humiliation of Chelsea versus Arsenal, their bitter rivals, increased pressure on Mauricio Pochettino.
Four changes were made by Pochettino to the Blues team that was defeated by a close margin on Saturday at Wembley Stadium. And it got off to the worst start for Chelsea imaginable when Leandro Trossard took advantage of some incredibly shoddy defending on the part of the visitors on minute four at the Emirates Stadium.
The score managed to remain at 1-0 until the half, but when the sides returned to the field, Arsenal was once more in complete control. Ben White’s tap-in made it 2-0 for the Gunners as Chelsea was reeling after the hosts’ short corner routine.
Before long, Chelsea was down 3-0 and facing a complete nightmare. After receiving a pass from Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz—who transferred from the Blues to Arsenal last summer—slotted the ball into the roof of the net.
Not too long after, Havertz received another. The German scored the fourth goal, 4-0, after Bukayo Saka was free to go inside the area and lay it off. The German shot the ball hard and low into the bottom corner.
And White got his second of the match at that point. Following a shoddy Chelsea defensive line, the right-back for Arsenal attempted to cross it to the far post, but it ended up in the top corner.
That’s how things remained at the Emirates. A complete mess for Chelsea. Bobby Vincent has assigned a performance rating of 10 to every Chelsea player.
Petrovic Djordje – 5
For Trossard’s score early on, the Serbian did not show off. Somehow the ball gets in between his legs. Despite this, he maintained his composure and kept Chelsea in the game with two outstanding back-to-back saves on minute twenty-six.
With the exception of his error, which is, to be fair, a rather significant thing to excuse, Petrovic played a really good game. He stops Rice from scoring early in the second half with yet another excellent save, and a few moments later, he turns the ball around the post to prevent Havertz from scoring.
Alfie Gilchrist (5)
Against Trossard, Rice, and Takehiro Tomiyasu, who were all attacking down Arsenal’s left side, Gilchrist had a difficult time.
Five Axel Disasi
Disasi’s performance was subpar. When he returned to the starting lineup at center back, it was unexpecteԀ. Why didn’t Trevoh Chalobah and Thiago Silva, who have both played well lately, stick together in the middle of the Blues’ defense?
Four Benoit Badiashile
An abrupt beginning for Badiashile. He was unable to physically impose himself on Kai Havertz and kept throwing the ball away.
Marc Cucurella: 5
One of the hardest tasks a full-back in the league has to face is Saka. Considering the situation, he performed admirably in the first half. During the second quarter, however, such was not the case, as Saka found it far too simple to go inside and set up Havertz for his second goal of the match.
Moises Caicedo – 5
Caicedo must exert more effort. He needs to perform well in these kinds of games, but there are some serious concerns about Chelsea’s midfield formation, which is not his fault. It is really hard to hold onto the ball since they are too far apart when they are in possession.
Four Enzo Fernandez
Declan Rice thinks it’s way too simple to merely walk to the edge of the box. There was no sign of Fernandez.
Five Noni Madueke
Madueke was largely contained despite displaying brief flashes of his right wing ability. There seems to be a player there, but we need to see a lot more of him.
Conor Gallagher: Five
Gallagher was quite silent. There aren’t many instances where the England international accomplished something noteworthy.
Mykhailo Mudryk (4)
Mudryk occasionally appeared lost. With Saka as a threаt, he was unable to assist Cucurella defensively. There was a ton of unoccupied space in front of him during the strike. In games like this, I just don’t see what he brings to this Chelsea team.
Five Nicolas Jackson
Jackson played a pretty strong hold-up. Almost twenty minutes in, a pass deflected onto the post and behind, forcing a goal out of nothing at all. But once more, he fell short at the end. He had a fantastic opportunity to put one on the board for the guests at the hour mark, but he missed it wide from close range.
