After a successful groin surgery, Enzo Fernandez will miss the remainder of the Premier League season, according to Chelsea, adding him to the club’s list of injuries. This season, the midfielder has made 40 appearances for Chelsea and has contributed 10 goals. The operation ought to keep the Argentina international eligible to compete in the Copa America this summer.
Midfielder Enzo Fernandez of Chelsea has announced that he would miss the whole 2023–24 Premier League season following “successful” surgery for a groin ιnjury.
After spending £106.8 million to join Chelsea in January 2023, Fernandez is the most recent addition to a long line of injuries that have upset manager Mauricio Pochettino during his first season at Stamford Bridge.
“Enzo Fernandez has successfully undergone surgery today for a groin issue and will now begin a period of rehabilitation, sidelining him for the remainder of Chelsea’s 2023/24 season,” the club said in a statement.
“The 23-year-old midfielder will work with the club’s medical department on his rehabilitation at Cobham.”
Chelsea is still trying to get something out of Pochettino’s debut season, having missed out on championship chances earlier in the season at Wembley Stadium against Manchester City and Liverpool in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, respectively.
Nine points behind sixth-place Manchester United are the Blues. But Chelsea’s ever-expanding ιnjury list will seriously hurt their prospects of a late comeback.
This season, Ben Chilwell, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Reece James, Lesley Ugochukwu, Romeo Lavia, and Christopher Nkunku have all suffered lengthy absences from the field; Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto were also forced to watch Arsenal’s 5-0 thrashing of them.
In regards to his team’s ιnjury problems, Pochettino stated earlier this month that he does not have a “fit squad” from which to select players and that it is “not fair to judge” his players for the season they have had.
