Jamie Redknapp, a former Premier League midfielder, has cast doubt on Nicolas Jackson’s center-forward skills and said that Chelsea needs a new striker.
After joining from Villarreal in the summer, Jackson has been Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice number nine this season. Even though he is the second-highest scorer for the Blues, the striker has had difficulty adjusting to the Premier League in his first season in England.
The 22-year-old has 14 goals for the West Londoners, but he has also squandered a lot of significant opportunities. The Senegal international’s skill as an all-around attacker has been questioned by Redknapp, but Gary Neville has just stepped out and backed him.
He stated this during halftime of Chelsea vs. Tottenham’s London derby on Sky Sports: “He puts himself in so many wonderful situations, but I don’t think he’s going to be a very strong goal scorer.
“He simply doesn’t seem like that player to me. I believe Chelsea would be interested in acquiring another center-forward if the appropriate player were to become available.
“He’s performed passably this season, but the issue lies in the dearth of strikers in the league. They don’t have many choices at the moment, but he has to improve on finishing, even though it’s the hardest skill to pick up.”
Micky van de Ven’s save of Jackson’s attempt to score in the first minutes of the match against Spurs was regrettable. Nevertheless, the forward did score his fourth goal of the season against Tottenham with a deft header later in the match after Cole Palmer’s free kιck smacked against the crossbar.
