In light of Mauricio Pochettino’s uncertain future, Ruben Amorim has disclosed that he had doubts about his future at Sporting Clube de Portugal after discussions with West Ham and connections with Chelsea.
Amorim, who was once expected to succeed David Moyes, ended himself in London last month to conduct negotiations with West Ham. After leading Sporting to its second league title in four years during his impressive tenure in Portugal, the Portuguese manager has also been linked to Manchester United and Liverpool.
Later, Amorim apologized to the Sporting supporters for his involvement with West Ham and said that his trip had been a “mistake.” Considering the Lions’ recent league championship, it seems likely that Amorim will stay in Lisbon.
Even if there were early concerns about his future, he ruled out the possibility of returning to England when asked about it after Sporting’s victory over Estoril on Saturday. “This is where I’ve been the happiest, where I’ve felt the most fulfilled professionally, let’s sаy,” he said to A Bola.
“There are rumors and I want to stay here, but I’m not going to take another plane to England.” What has changed is my understanding that it is pointless to predict whether anything will occur or not.
“We don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I am bound by a contract, and I found out that I started these rumors, even though this was the first season I had concerns about his future.” I would have quit if I hadn’t won the league, but now that I have, you’re asking, “What if something goes wrong?”
“I’m young, I make mistakes, but I’ve learned. It’s said of me that I communicate effectively, but I need to do much better because I have a lot of responsibilities here and I raise questions that might not be helpful.
“I’ve always been content here; the first year I wondered if it was time to go, but I’ve since learnt to let things unfold as they must and to stop putting pressure on myself.
“I’m going to let life happen while we plan for the upcoming season. Nothing has changed regarding my deal with Sporting; I’ll keep you informed of any updates.”
